The classic Leather flying garments that preceded the development of the MA-1 might be more glamorous adored and sought after. But by the late 1940's Leather had long been showing its weaknesses and the US military aviation community was seeking a more capable replacement.
They found it in this new Nylon design.
The now #Iconic MA-1 was originally introduced in 1949-1950 as as specific replacement and upgrade to the various #Leatherflightjacket that military aviators had been wearing for almost 40 years at that point. In truth,.both leather had cotton had been the standard,.but as something new that was engineered for the #jetage was needed and the light weight, water resistant MA-1 fit the bill.
This scraggly looking example is my own jacket and it features some of my own patches from my time serving in the #USNAVY as a military #Photographer.
I have both my squadron and the air craft carrier i served onboard represented.

The design is a classic look that after a few decades followed its leather predecessors and entered popular culture as daily wear for men. Ma-1 jackets were worn by actors, Steve McQueen and Kevin Coster onscreen in films and became a staple of street wear in recent years.
My own isnt for #sale but i am super happy to make a replica just for you!!!
