Alpha Industries classic piece of mid 20th Century Military outer wear isnt just a cold weather tour-de-force. Its also an aesthetic masterpiece that has completely transcended its original design and purpose to enter popular culture right alongside the legendary military jackets that came before.
This versatile waist length military flight garment was developed in the early 1950's for the newly minted US Air Force flight and ground crews and quickly adopted across the other services during the Korean War due to its light weight and warmth.
Designed to withstand temps down to 060F,...It is actually a shorter counterpart to the full length N-3 B hooded parka. The shorter length allowing for greater freedom of movement and mobility inside the cockpit of aircraft and for maintenance crew servicing various military aircraft.
Its a tried and true military garment through and through yet its also got a classic aesthetic to it that cant be denied.

You cant say that the N-2B is "regal" or "sophisticated" by itself yet it does have enough small design elements to punch above its weight in being a handsome garment that has become almost an essential part of cold weather wear.

One of its key design features is the "split hood" which means the fur lined hood can be unzipped to lay flat on the wearers shoulders. Again, allowing for greater mobility while working in cramped and crowded spaces during long flight missions.
Other key features and aspects included pass-through pockets allowing the wearer to reach inside the garment without exposing hands to the extreme cold air outside ,.and various utility pockets , buttons and wind flap to reduce exposure.
